Eric Cantor, R, Va., the Majority Leader in the House of Representatives gave a speech today at the American Enterprise Institute in Virginia and told his audience that Republicans have to make their message about people and not about numbers. He said that if the Party did that, then conservative principals would prevail.
Don't be fooled, this is the same Eric Cantor who obstructed every proposal POTUS has made to shore up our economy and put people back to work.
Their messaging may change but the goals are still the same. Their goals are to cut Medicare and change it to a State Block Voucher program. Their other goal is to privatize Social Security, and create huge new private corporate investment opportunities for Banks and Investment institutions.
These efforts are unnecessary and counterproductive. There never has been a successful link between lower taxes and higher job creation.
The evidence for austerity budget priorities is overwhelmingly negative! The UK has endured 3 additional recessions that it did not have to endure.
A Washington Post Op-Ed by Dana Milbank, published February 5th, 2013 points out that ;
When it came to what his party would do to make people so buoyant and uplifted, Cantor had little beyond the policies he and his colleagues have long offered. The first questioner asked whether anything in Cantor’s lengthy speech would “be incorporated in legislation.” Cantor demurred. “I will say we do intend to follow up with some policy proposals and legislation working with our committees to move forward on many, many of these issues,” he said.
There's only one problem with all this new branding by the Majority Leader. The content of these proposals must also change as well.
Whether or not this happens in the near future though is anyone's guess!
